The name
The significance of Embla is not that any singular one of us is the first Woman nor are we the first Mother.
But that we are all Embla.
We are the Mothers and the Stewards of the Human Race, the Land and the Village.
The Why
The Embla Village was born from a simple truth that it's Founder Tarryn recognised after 18 years of isolation and solo Motherhood.
No mother should have to raise her children alone.
Like many women, I experienced the quiet isolation that can follow Motherhood and domestic abuse. Long after the abuse itself ends, or the postpartum period is over - the effects of isolation often remain—
Financial insecurity/abuse, fractured support networks, workplace discrimination, mental health and wellbeing challenges and the overwhelming responsibility of carrying everything alone.
I saw how many mothers are forced to choose between earning a living and being present for their children.
I saw the invisible barriers created by discrimination, ageism, misogyny, and systems that rarely recognise the value of care.
I saw brilliant women losing confidence, opportunities, and community—not because they lacked ability, but because the structures around them made thriving incredibly difficult.
The How
Embla was imagined as a different possibility.
Not simply another service for mothers, but an entirely different way of living.
A place where mothers are never expected to do motherhood alone. Where children are not seen as obstacles to work, but welcomed as part of community life.
Where meaningful work, enterprise, childcare, nature, creativity, food, learning, and wellbeing exist together instead of competing with one another.
A place where women can build financial independence without sacrificing the precious years of raising their children.
The Embla Village is rooted in the belief that when mothers flourish, children flourish. When children flourish, communities flourish. And when communities flourish, the land flourishes too.
This is more than a vision for a village.It is a vision for a culture where care is valued, belonging is restored, and no mother has to walk alone.
Embla is not just the place we hope to build. It is the future we choose to create, together.
